This october 1957 build, 1958 model year, Dove blue combi is very untouched,
A cool project….
Dove blue is cool….. first paint even more. The perfect bus for your next patina project? Or a cool base to restore something up to original specs? Your choice…
Sadly enough this bus lost a lot of its og parts during last 25 years in storage…
But body is still together… untouched… values change, as do values. This is now a perfect entry bus to wonderful Splittie world !
Uncut tail light holes, a rare sight these day on projects!
Driver cab is still pretty neat, cab floors do have rust, but nothing real bad or fancy…
Unmolested bulkhead helps restoration a lot!
Underside is not bad at all (man could expect way worse from the outside looks) need rockers and such, but hey, its a work horse for almost 50 years and counting….
Was a regular “Turista” to Mexico back in the day! Last time in 1967…Several stickers over the bus ! Check same time nose panel under the windshield….
Your call?

Many people ask me if there is still a lot of americana left in the US… for sure there is, not too much in the over urbanized places, but once you go to the country side, americana is still part of the daily life, big time… as Hot Rods are… I thought these where a couple of good examples of what I call patina in a time capsule, when was this picture taken? 1965 or 2014?
It fit all so nice together….
Volkswagen sold 6.12 million brand new cars all over the globe in 2014, but the number “VW Currywurst” they sold was even higher. I knew already from a couple of factory visits that Volkswagen in Wolfsburg had their own butchery, where they made the workers life time favorite “currywurst” a kind of sausage that taste not bad at all with the Volkswagen Ketchup (yes they make ketchup as well!) .
The “currywurst” is available in two sizes (12.5 and 25cm long) and production increased by no less as 10% with a 6.4million units sold during 2014!!! besides the “currywurst” Volkswagen make also a couple of other “wurst” so total “wurst” production came over 7.8million.
Most of these “wurst” is eaten in different VW factory cantina’s as lunch, but in Germany all the “wurst” have their own proper part n° (Originalteil) and principly can be ordered at any dealership (originalteil).
We couldn’t trace the partnr’s so far….
But there is more, as cherry on the cake sauce on the wurst, Volkswagen produced and sold no less THAN 536,826 kilograms of tomato sauce to serve with the wurst…
In total over 30 employees work in the butchery and they produce Volkswagen wurst for over 40 years. They even produce a vegetarian wurst but that’s what they in the factory say, no surf, no turf….
