Well here we tracked another one of these beauty’s, simply stunning, practically all original untouched, with some detail and help from the gods, you see what you see and you get what it is, an foremost original car that let you water mouth, that attracts more to bite in as a piece of candy, more sexy like Marilyn Monroe in her heydays!

The story behind this car is simple, very simple, it resided its whole life in Finland, not on the mainland but on one of the Islands, Åland, and as far as the story goes never left that place! Well the shape of the car confirm this story easily.

So what happened? When we got the car the underside was real well protected as they sprayed a tick pack of undercoating, nothing special as they did almost all of the cars in Scandinavia around that time, a typical seventies thing, it gave less noise, better on gravel, and should keep the rust away… well some did, other didn’t. Here it helped wonder well,  this car was really very extremely good, so we decided to get rid of all dirty undercoating and bring back nice and shiny paint, in inner fenders, rockers, floor plates, just everywhere! We succeeded wonder well! As we needed to paint the inside from the fenders, we decided to go for good, so we placed a NOS! front hood, we painted all four fenders inside out, front and rear valence and the four inner fenders, all the rest of the paint… is still factory original! Can you believe? And let me tell you another thing, the pictures of this car don’t do justice, in real this car is even ten times nicer!

After our post on oct 16 about a beetle with dual steeing from a BBT friend in Calabasas California some reactions brought some real interesting story’s…

Bram, a sun of a very long time BBT friend and customer sended in pictures from a car on a junkyard in Portugal, pictured somewhere early 2000, when he returned in 2004 junkyard and dual steering oval window where all cleaned up and dissappeared, another one crunched more then likely, nobody that ever will know that story perhaps…

just cool to stare at the pictures and dream your fantasy about the discussions made behind these steering wheels, tears, laughs, emotions… we all learned to drive one day…:)

Well Dave, as You can see they did excist really! here’s the proof!

Bram, thanks so much for these cool picture! a very nice add to the BBT log… BBT is so proud to have friends like You!

Very few cars seems to have just about “everything”, we get the honors with this to present you one of this rare birds!

From the M-plate we learn that this cutie is built on exactly Thursday November 4 from the year 1971 what makes it a 1972 model year. Production number was 7854. Destination code UA do tell us this baby was exported straight to Los Angeles, USA, place of Sun, beach, surfing and… rust-free cars! This is the first and nevertheless most important fact on this bus, rust-free!

What let this little gem stand out from the ordinary? First the BIG steel sliding roof, bay windows with these big sliders been called not for nothing the Samba bus of tomorrow. We included a new set of sliding roof cables, unfortunately some of the guides are still missing. Total seats seven, voted the best configuration by many, walk through in the front, two seater in the middle and a full width three seater in the back. Now here start the real special about this special edition… This rear seat in addition of a very well thought after and cleverly installed hinge mechanism turns this original rear seat into a bed in no time! Just like the Multivan features in more recent years, just watch the pictures.
