After months of construction, moving, putting the new workflow together, prepare for open house, the big BBT party, the convoy, Bad Camberg, a week full of visitors and European Bug In n°4 I was really ready for a break. So my friend Mark and I decided to load up 2 Westy’s, a SO34 and our trusty SO23 with just finished matching Westfalia Passau trailer and make a tour around the lakes in Northern Italy with both of our family’s.
To get from Belgium to Italy the most easy (and most beautiful drive) is over Switzerland. So our first stop was the “Vierwaldstädtensee” near Luzern, on the foot of the Alps, where we made camping.
Continue we drove over the Gottard pass (tunnels are for pussy’s) and off course we took the old road!
Extreme nice to drive here!
Real cobblestone streets!
Our next goal was reached at the first Italian Lake, Lago Lugano, incredible nice settings!
From Lago Lugano we headed to Lago di Como, we drove around and entered a ferry to Bellagio, together with our busses.
No, not in the hotel in Las Vegas, but the real Bellagio. A pittoresk town the very end on a land tongue in Lago di Como
Wouldn’t we all want a ride in this cool taxi boat?
Hey Peggy, what’s behind you?
And on it went to Lago Maggiore. Stresa and Cernobio being really worth the visit!
The drive along the lake shows You all nice old Villa’s. Unbelievable richness, unbelievable preservation!
Italians really know how to maintain their patrimonies.
Should our Westy be ok on this drive?
Souvenirs you never forget….
Everything’s old in here… an all-aluminum made pedalo water car… Forza! Who has one for me? that would be real cool on top of my trailer!
The way back… kept the best for last… San Bernadino pass in Switzerland
2066meters above sea level, we let work the Westy’s hard!
We ran into some goats on the way down…pure Swiss country side!
Davos, we’re we came kind a late for the annually January G8 top. But we had a nap and our Westy needed some “small” repairs..
After a brief visit (and lunch) at the Bodensee and the Titisee the drive home through the Black Forest really blew us away. What an end of an incredible remarkable trip.
Don’t forget to drive your VW’s to beautiful places, they’ve been made for that!
And now back to work Bob, a pile of paper and a couple of hundred emails are awaiting you!
Beginning of April this year we moved the entire company from the old buildings to the new one… many things are published and written about… a lot of fond memory’s from hard work remain, rebuilding the shelves was a very hard one, we will never forget…
but also th counters for the shop was quiet a expedition on its own to get them in, remeber this from previous posts? they’re about 300 kilo’s each!
sometimes we used real people to keep things in balance while moving shelves, Koen and Gonzo, qualified master shelve constructors now..
The team spirit was there for sure, we even created the BBT A team… a name we will remember long time, impossibole to get them all the same picture, these guys are part of it for sure! no this is not a picture from a Western movie…
