Somewhere in Germany in the seventies…
Thanks to Hubert for these cool pictures…
Belgian importer D’Ieteren made a special Mach1 version of the beetle. during a period from a couple of years these fully dressed beetles been available through the VW dealer network in Belgium. This is considered as special as an EMPI GTV bug, but the european version.
Mach1 Beetles came with a powerful Okrasa engine, with several options like sportssteeringwheel, stripings etc etc…
“FFFast Fred” Frederic Peeters (from EBI fame) and his lovely wife Isabelle are the happy owners of this real Mach 1 and restored all the way down! This is considered as one of the few Mach 1 that stayed alive. there’s less as a handfull!
Isabelle and Frederik showed off their “Belle” at the Spa Francorchamps Le Bug Show last week, thanks for that FFFFred
For Belgian VW people this is real special, and thanks to FFFred this one survived!
This week a couple of cool new additions for the bullet indicator enthusiast.
Bullet (or nipple) indicators been, used on buses after semaphores till 07/63. US regulations made Volkswagen to stop the production of cars with semaphores sooner as the European regulations. The bullet indicator was the first step in indicator progress to create more visibility and there with a safer driving.
Beetles for US market had also bullet indicators from mid 55 till end of oval but the size is different like the bus ones…
We have now finished the housing and the base plate.
Lenses for these indicators been already available under BBT ref 0616-490, we continue to finish the bulbholder and will have complete bullet indicators available soon…
0616-495 Turnsignal housing left – Bus -07/63
0616-496 Turnsignal housing right – Bus -07/63
0890-960 Indicator mounting plate – Bus -07/63
