Because I don’t want to overload your computer I decided to split up my wonderful visit here in several portions for the rest of the week. (or almost!) Today (Monday) I fly off to Bali to visit some local friends and a couple of days of rest after these crazy non stop last 14 days of visit and travel. Next Friday I’m heading back for home… so meanwhile I hope You will enjoy my reports from The YogYa VW festival 2013 and let’s start with part 1, Saturday, Dec 28, after my arrival at the venue!
Say hi to the crowds, from inside the BBT bus, and start walking….
First impressions? Very high build quality on an extreme creativity… Indonesian VW scene rocks! Believe me!
Do you prefer a race Ghia, or a bone stock, lowlight convertible? Choice is yours!
The quality AND quantity of Bay Window bus was enormous!
Friend Wawan’s latest Project, let us explain…. take a Porsche Cayman, rip off the body and all you don’t need and slice it under a split window bus body, almost ready to drive in style! In Indonesia there is no build limit….
And Wawan’s “other” bus, extreme nice and crazy cool finished panel with Indian motorcycle logo’s…. this is a panel van extreme! I wouldn’t mind shipping this over to Belgium!
Extreme buggies, local fiberglass buggy builder. Top quality quality and finish again, wowh, would there be a market for such cool buggy bodies in Europe? We can import those if You want, we await your reactions! (but please only after January 07)…. on the picture with owner and builder ….
Mr President of crazy engine builders… that was how this car was announced to me. The back was FULL of engine! The car is extremely fast, I’m so sorry I forgot to ask the best result, I was just too impressed…
How you like a set of BBT GT Sprintstars on a 181 “Thing”? cool huh? Here the 181 is called “Safari” there is many and also several very nice ones! The sprints finish it off nicely!
First life show entertainment, an authentic dance set from Papua. Indonesians are extremely proud on their heritage… it was very impressive too! Don’t forget to check out the banner in the back ground…
VW club of Bandung have their own broadcasting bus… This is just one of many examples of how hot VW club life in Indonesia really is!
Scale competition was massive too, with many cool models on display, I think this was my favorite pick….
The venue itselves was MASSIVE! Incredible, really large indoor, and outside outdoor too!
I said MASSIVE! Do you find Alain on the picture?
The serious works, BBT pick of the weekend, won the very most coveted BBT GT Sprintstar trophy!
“Volksrod” is a car extreme, VW to the next level, it blew me away, wowh, especially the interior, about perfect… in my eyes that is… and yes, for Wawan especially, let it be clear; I like custom cars as well…
Oh yes, the wheels are home made, I said before, there is no build limit in Indonesia, when you want something, you make it, that’s final!
But “Volksrod” was not the only Hot rod, they had several on display, look at this cool front axle…..
Batek is a typical style of printing for Indonesia, on clothing, this motives been signed and painted by hand, on a car they use airbrush….
They do have them also in bus…
Over-sized Empi 5 spoke as a sitting corner table? Mr.Yumos would love to make them for you, inquiries welcome!
Or do you prefer a Type 34 sofa? Everything is possible, also available in 181 “Thing, beetle etc etc… fiberglass… Nice!
Getting local, hanging out with some VW club members from Bali….
Type 3 movement is very well going as well, the club and register do a great job, and had several cars on display over the weekend!
My favorite club booth, although the guy was kind a cool there was not a lot of “movement”….
First paint, all original, we do like originality! Wowh, even at water cookers? Let us think a little bit about that…. but for sure we could appreciate!
Another “very special” car from VW Club from Bandung, the “Disaster respond unit vehicle”, used at least once a year to support victims of natural disasters with medicines and first aid. Indonesia is living with active Volcano, frequent earthquakes and more natural activities of this kind, but a VW club that has a active respond vehicle to help? I’ve never seen before! Keep up the great job guys! You’re doing wonderful and are an example of humanity for the whole world!
I think Frederik needed urgently help from the nurses here…
Yours truly having a great time, found a toy in the kids corner he really liked….
The difference between man and boys is only the price of the toys! have fun!
Enough for today, other wise your devices will keep on loading pictures, but we will be back tomorrow for the next part of this beautiful show experience!
A short blog today, festivities are full force, so pretty busy!
The entry to the event venue yesterday was just massive! wowh, I felt like a rock star, BBT has a really good name here!
Our friend Anto from Terror Garage fame drove me to the event with his recently acquired Rometsch… after a round of honor over the venue right up to the main stage, Welcome was overwhelming… I had to stand almost 15 minutes on the stage before all photographer could do their job!
I thanked my friend Anto incredible for my drive up and entree, something many press people could appreciate a lot!
Even a larger surprise, friend Wawan and Rawshid from SmartVolsWorks fame made a real PR bus for me, with my pictures on it! Unbelievable! From comments on my email this morning I can tell these pictures been largely shared already all over facebook…. so nice heartwarming!
Thank You Wawan for the invitation, after all it was your idea! And thanks for hospitality and reception, it is unbelievable supertastic!
Welcome welcome, what we see is mind blowing, never seen before, Yogya VW fest is a real VW party! with all kind of art, with loads of visitors, but especially with real stars… the cars!
Welcome to Yogyakarta VW festival, a full report follow in the next days as they expect me now back to the venue…
Believe me, it is massive…. my report will be spread in the next coming days…. too much for one blog…
This very first day we decided to kick of the whole event with a little group to experience the sunrise at the Borobudur Temple, this is the largest Buddhist temple in the world, and sunrise seems to be a very special experience there… we love to share this experience with You.
If we do something we do something in style! Before our Hotel lobby, Friday morning 03.30hr….
Buda and friends from Dakota club Indonesia (they call split window buses here Dakota, like the split window of the well known airplane) brought out 5 splits to do this trip, once we saw the buses we forgot the way too early hour right a way! The drive was magic!
We rushed the splits through early morning traffic, believe me, traffic never stops in Indonesia! we drove about one hour and a little bit… This was the first view on the Borobudur Temple, its so MASSIVE!
Everything was nicely arranged and we rushed to to tops, many many steps, especially large steps! The early morning view was exciting!
unbelievable spectacle of colors, wowh, its only take 5 or 6 minutes, but so beautiful, it must be the work of the Gods!
The temple itself is impressive as well, unbelievable big, incredible build, a whole story and history, the Temple was even “lost” for quiet a couple of centuries! I try to imagine how You can loose such a large work of art…
There is 10 stories, starting from the bottom, clock wise from the east You can learn all about Buddhism and life, as after all that’s what’s Buddhism is all about… it read like a comic, and is made in all Buddha signs You can imagine… every art work is like a page, sometimes one line, sometimes two or more… I really hope I can come back one day and take my time to follow the whole way bottom to top…
an incredible massive building, with still many secrets…
After the visit we had a healthy local breakfast and decided to do some picture shooting from the buses in the entry park… welcome to tropical Indonesia…
the five buses from our little convoy!
On the way back we did a little detour and we had to fuel up… this is DIRTY CHEAP, only 0.50 Euro for a litre!!! This must be a country of dream!
driving back the back roads was amazing, little farmers, working on their rice fields, all so natural, so simple, this is far away from our Western European hectic lives!
I even found a new weekend job at a local place! Salak are brown fruits, very well tasting! We bought many!
Same stop I tried to get some “art pictures” local people, nice local setting and old VW’s, it don’t get better! The girl was so funny, I took at least 10 pictures with her!
Hi Buda, and Thanks so much for this trip, wowh man, You and the Dakota people really took care for us this morning….! How can we ever thank You????
Local transport, yes, this still exist in 2013! Do You think these guy’s are worried about the capacity of a the new i phone? Happy life, easy, slow, and working… life can be simple!
Friday night was opening dinner, as a guest of honor we shared the table with the president of the Jogjakarta VW club, the organizer of this show!
Entertainment came from a century old native dance from Hindu period, I thought it was quiet fascinating!
and after that there was a little speech from yours truly…
To be continued with the official pictures… left of me the president of the Federation of all Indonesian VW clubs, “Volkswagen Indonesia” they shelter no less then 75! clubs! Only Volkswagen! On my right the very special guest of this VW show, the Indonesian Minister of Sport and Youth, a real enthusiast and vivid Mercedes Benz and VW collector, what an honor to get a picture with these two important people!
and a picture with all representatives from the participating clubs to the event… wowh!
to finish the obligated “red carpet” picture from our family…
today we will enter the show grounds to report tomorrow, so stay tuned!
