Long time friend Richard Davies from Mid America fame send me some pictures from his oval window in winter driving… so nice they even used some for the latest MAW catalog cover!
this is Richards story…. Richard lives in Colorado, at the feet of the Rocky’s…
Sunday 13 Jan 2013. I decided our 1957 Bug was in need of a run to charge the battery. This is the Bug on the cover of the current Mid America Motorworks catalog.
As there is no heating in the Bug, it took a while to persuade my wife, Terri, that a Sunday afternoon run was a good idea. Our warmest mountain clothing was required as the daytime high was 8 Fahrenheight (-14 C).
We drove more than 40 miles, the Bug reaching 80MPH (130KPH) despite the 8500ft elevation (on private roads, naturally). We passed a few surprised drivers in modern Japanese cars who appeared nervous as there were a few light snow flurries and made it home with no damage to car or human apart from cold feet.
To my surprise Terri says she is fine going on winter trips in the Bug in future, but would prefer that we remain below 60 MPH.
Well done Richard, our baby’s are made for driving! keep up the real spirit!
Last week Thursday we loaded three beetles in a 40 ft direction of Kobe, Japan, there is load VW enthusiast in the land of the rising sun who adores European models, so two Swedish and one Belgian beetle go to their new owners…
Loading and securing is done by BBT professional service… oh yes we ship worldwide!
