Not one, but two brand new magazines came into my hands last weekend…
Let’s start first to give a small preview in the brand new and very first Indonesian magazine “Aircooled way” pretty difficult to read in Indonesian language, but cool to see my column in a language I hardly understand my selves…:)
The magazine is the special mission of BBT friend of Da House Dokke Schilder from Holland, better know as the driver from “The Painter” gasser… we put in a page of our publicity to get this production from the ground…
Next was a new British mag where our friend photographer Dave Warren contributed with a full report of the Ben Pon Barndoor meet, something we real well attended… especially our schwimmwagen outing was well photographed and published…
And one of the best pics ever in my eyes, Dave and me, having a good time… this is Historic!
A close up of the “water pic”… oh yes, we do heavy swimming, do You see the contours of both Schwimmwagens? Hard huh? And no we didn’t sink….LOL… good vibes to remember, read VW Vibe!
Last weekend we enjoyed Bug On Wheels in Belgium. its a second edition with a very nice organisation behind it of a young and very motivated team!
Due to circumstances (read “work”) I was only able to attend Sunday, but what a blast!
Nice Split standard from BBT customer (and friend of the house) Luc Van Der Elst won its class!
Entering a VW show is very hard not to run into BBT Pascal… he visit about 40 to 50 VW shows a year… what a job…:)
My trusty 34 Ghia did the whole trip flawless, 19400 original miles now on the clock… I enjoyed every minute of the drive!
Nice brother of the 34, this extreme cool Notchback, yammie!
Or a beach buggy, that sounds like SUMMERTIME! Especially so nicely finished like this one….
Swap meet was cool! scored actually nothing, but cool parts around!
Extreme cool low light, used to be a real queen of Patina, or as we say restoration is always possible….
Coach build coral was a huge success, besides our schwimmwagen there was a huge gathering of what we would call “rarest of the rare”! The ice cream truck in the picture is build on a barndoor base…
Catering was real well sorted out, and a joy to sample some cool Belgium good ones in the sun or under the umbrella’s…….
….while enjoying a little dance from the local dance school….:)
Another crazy cool bus, do we love Palm Green Sand Green? you bet!
An overview of the swap meet at lunchtime, too warm to walk, everybody was inside having lunch!
Resto Cal is still a style I’m cracking for…
Here another pic of the ubercool Ice cream truck, based on a barndoor!
Jean Marie given the audience a lot to look at… an all original totally untouched and fully operational 1948 beetle….
The final day today… crazy how times flies when you have a good time!
As it was a celebration event they had a cake contest! Wowh some cakes been a real work of art, don’t want to eat them (my doctor tells me its not good for me anyway….LoL)
Saturday night entertainment kicked of with the Boysband The Lemon Brothers… imagine these guys rocked the tiles of the roof! They’re only 11 years old, wowh! Now that was entertainment!
After dinner there was the real work… Tons of Fun band was a formation with no less as 11 musicians all from top top level! The band was/is build up around the former leadsinger from REO Speedwagen… as we all know (at least I didn’t!) REO Speedwagen was grounded in Champaign Illinois not even 100 miles a way from Mid America HQ! What a blast! Especially the horn section was a lust for the eyes and ears!
This is the man! This is the God of VW entertainment in the MidWest! Mike Yager, Chief cheerleader of MidAmerica…. Thanks Mike for putting on such a great event, Thanks for the invitations, thanks for everything!
Sunday morning was very slow, I gave another seminar about car collecting, and why You love certain cars more like others… I also gave one on Saturday and Friday but we forgot to take pictures…:)
The end of the show was coming by and everybody packed up about ready to leave… I thought this was a nice combo…. in the USA at least there’s some place for driving these big animals…
Just a “normal” beetle, but how nice and original restored it was, a real candy for the eye! Mike gave him a serious award in the final price ceremony, as many others! Well deserved! Congratulations…
….on our way back to Chicago…. we’ve been passed by a monster! The brother of White Whale listen to the name of Black whale….:)
Hopefully I find some more time to take some more pictures from the rest of the trip! Stay tuned!
